Google Fiber, the Gigabit Internet Service, May Be Headed to Austin Next

Google Fiber has mythical proportions in the US and even around the world, a relatively affordable and neutral gigabit connection, isn't something most people have access to. But Google is expanding its service beyond Kansas City, where it debuted.

The company is holding an event next week in Austin and it looks like it may have to do with an expansion there.

"The City of Austin and Google will make a very important announcement that will have a positive impact on Austinites and the future of the city. We anticipate more than 100 community leaders and elected officials to be in attendance to celebrate this announcement," Google and Austin said in an invitation.

The theory is that this has to do with Google Fiber. However, it may be about a Google or startup campus there. Google is already fostering startups in several cities in the world, something like this in cooperation with the City of Austin would make sense.
